HAPPY NEW YEAR'S

Friday, December 31, 2010

I remember when Grandpa and I YEARS ago would celebrate New YEAR'S Eve with friends.  Today Grandpa and I are enjoying New YEAR'S Eve in our easy chairs waiting for 9 o'clock to come.  Grandpa said that will be our New YEAR'S celebration at 9 o'clock because we probably won't make it much past that hour.

ALONE

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Winding down to the end of this year.  Grandpa said he is ready for next week so we will know what day it is.  I guess we are pretty scheduled people.
Jess, I just read on FB that you were sick.  I pray you are feeling better real soon.  There is so much flu going around and a lot of people have it that I know.
Today Mrs. Sheehan came up for a visit.  She brought her newest quilting project with her and wanted an opinion.  Grandpa jumped right in and shared some of his ideas.  I'm the lucky one to have a husband who understands quilting.
Mrs. Sheehan has never been ALONE and it must be quite an adjustment for her.

FOREVER

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Had a wonderful visit with my cousins, Rosemarie and Charlene.  It's always fun taking a trip down memory lane.  Rosemarie and I were both blessed to have been raised by our Grandmother Janka.  Grandma passed away December 27, 1961.  I write this in memory of a beautiful woman who revealed Christ in what she did for others including myself.  Grandma will be remembered FOREVER.

DISCOVERS

Monday, December 27, 2010

Getting back in a routine with meals and swimming.  I brought out my new swimsuit I had purchased last year.  I like to keep a new one aside before I throw out the old one.  This one is a two piece which I thought was nice.  I looked at the tag from the top piece and it said Bust Enhancer.  I thought "this is good".  Looked at the tag on the bottom piece and it said Tummy Trimmer.  I'm liking this.  I hadn't tried it on since I purchased it and figured it would be fine.  I was surprised when I got to the pool and put it on, the top looked good, the tummy looked good but I DISCOVERED the length came down almost to my knees.  I don't think I would win any bathing suit contest with this one.  It didn't affect my swimming and I was able to do a full workout.  That's what counts.

LORD

Sunday, December 26, 2010

The day after Christmas is almost like Christmas day without the surprise element.  Family brought wonderful food for our Christmas snacks and dinner so when I opened the refrigerator I didn't have to cook today and maybe even a couple of days.  Yeah!!!!  On the dessert end we have many cookies, sweet breads, nut rolls and thanks to our wonderful son-in-law, Tim, we have a chocolate cake with yummy icing.  Oh! must mention the delicious cocktail shrimp with sauce that was in our refrigerator.  I don't know if it was forgotten or intentionally left but I'm a happy camper.  I want to say thank you LORD and thank you family.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Belief in God brings an inner strength, spiritual light, ineffable peace.

SHINING STAR

Saturday, December 25, 2010

A Happy, Happy Christmas day with family.  Loved the phone call and email from our family up in MN.

It wouldn't be Christmas if Grandma didn't pull a few blunders and today was no exception.  If I remember correctly last year Grandma forgot to put the money in Jess's envelope and today Kyle was the victim of Grandma's forgetful memory.  Kyle played Santa and delivered the gifts by airmail (tossing through the air).  Unfortunately he didn't get only but one from us and that was a can of nuts.  Of course we gave him his other gift later and then he forgot to take it with him when he left.  I wonder who will be my victim, oops! SHINING STAR next year? :{

That was only one of my blunders today.  John was graciously preparing the meal for us and I thought I would help by setting up a table for him. The table was a double sided drop leaf table with one side up and I wanted to put up the second side to give him more room.  On top of the table was a container full of mixed vegetables and a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Welllllllll! when I tried to put the second side up the table flipped and the vegetables and open bottle of olive oil slid off onto the floor.  The vegetables were fine he just scooped them up but the oil fell into a plastic container which saved the carpet but there was only about a quarter of the olive oil left in the bottle.  I was ordered to leave the kitchen and let the cooks do their thing.  (the photo is Kathy, Debbie and John cleaning up after me)

I do have some family news if you haven't read it already on FB.  Michael got accepted to Miami U. of Ohio and is waiting to see if he gets accepted to OSU.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
A little child, a SHINING STAR, a stable crude, the door ajar; but in that place, so crude, forlorn, the hope of all the world was born.

CHRISTMAS

Friday, December 24, 2010

Since it's just hours away we want to wish you all a very Merry CHRISTMAS.

Grandpa and I were blessed today with friends and neighbors stopping in to visit and exchanging gifts.  I guess this qualifies as tradition since we do it every CHRISTMAS eve.  We have many home baked cookies and breads ready to be eaten or I should say devoured.  We are looking forward to CHRISTMAS day having John, Deb, Erica, Michael, Tim, Kathy, Kyle, Kasey and Tori coming here for our CHRISTMAS gathering.  There is one thing different this year and that is they are bringing the food.  I'm excited!  Even Steve and Tracy have contributed to the food by sending a spiral baked ham.  Families are the most important part of CHRISTMAS.  It all started with the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph.  Grandpa and I went to CHRISTMAS eve service tonight which is our way of worshiping the new born King.  Like our Pastor said "He came as a baby but didn't remain a baby.  He took our sins and died and rose again from the dead.  He will come again not as a baby but as King of Kings."

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
He who has CHRISTMAS in his heart will never look for it under a tree.

"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTMAS LOVE TO YOU ALL,

LIGHT

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Today God was in control with His perfect timing.  It's really amazing when one can look back on the day and see how God was there.

Grandpa and I had a wonderful visit with Claudia this afternoon.  She looks wonderful and doesn't age one bit.
Received a phone call from the hospital saying a friend of mine was there and needed my help.  Grandpa drove me there and we were able to help where she needed help.  I don't want to go into details but all I can say and what's important is The Lord was our light leading us through this day.  Thank you Jesus!

HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY KYLE
The photo is Kyle with his girlfriend Bethany. Kyle is the son of Tim and Kathy Grubbs.  He is currently studying for a doctor at the University Toledo of Medicine.

I just heard some exciting news this evening that I'm allowed to share with you.
Tori tried out for the high school musical play Grease.  Yep! you guessed it she got the roll of Sandy.  I think that's pretty darn good to get the lead in the high school play in your freshman year.  Tori will make a perfect Sandy.  Congratulations Tori!!!! (Tori is the daughter of Tim and Kathy Grubbs and is a freshman at Stow high school.)

HUMBLE

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Today I had an HUMBLING experience.  I had to admit I was wrong.  I knew I had to admit it but didn't want to so I prayed about it and of course God ,in His infinite wisdom, let me know I had to fess up.  What was so good about it was I had some good news before I had to admit to the bad news.  No, I don't have to tell you because all you have to know is HUMBLE is good.  Grandpa was more happy about being right that the bad news wasn't so bad after all.

This morning Grandpa noticed water on our basement floor coming from the hot water heater.  Tomorrow we have a man coming to install our new water heater.  Ka Ching!  Unexpected expense at this time of year.

TODAY/TOMORROW

Monday, December 20, 2010

Boy!  We really must have been good this year because Santa came TODAY from the South and gave us a big beautiful Poinsettia.  It did have a card with it saying Merry Christmas from Jackie (Neighbor Bob's daughter).

TODAY was a baking day and it sure made the house smell good.  I made some pumpkin bread and nut rolls.  The nut rolls looked pretty funny but Grandpa and I had to try them to make sure they were ok to eat. :o) One nut roll looked like a big foot with a sore toe.  I think TOMORROW I might try another recipe for making nut rolls.  What the heck! Why not?

PEACE

Sunday, December 19, 2010

After talking with the Santa up North I can now reveal the gifts he brought to our house via FedEx, UPS & UPS.
Gift number one came in a very large box.  Grandpa asked if I ordered anything and I said "no".  We thought we should open it and was very surprised at what we saw.  Are you ready?  It was a 36" x 26" puzzle board.  It has a large tray to work the puzzle and smaller trays to sort.  It's very portable and easy to store.
Gift number two was a Spiral honey baked ham which will be for our Christmas get together.
Gift number three came and Grandpa said either it's broken or it's a puzzle.  We thought we should open it and to our wondering eyes it was a puzzle of our wedding picture.  My PEACE I leave with you.

DANGEROUS

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Checking our list, checking it twice.  At my age it's pretty DANGEROUS to check it only once.  It seems like short term memory is getting shorter all the time.  But that's OK as long as it doesn't affect my happy zone.

SEASON

Friday, December 17, 2010

WOW!  Santa brought another gift to our house today.  We had no idea Santa knew us so personally.  Grandpa was so amazed!  He just couldn't wait till Christmas to open the gift.
Ok!  This is getting serious because it is me with my nose pressed against the window looking for any signs of Santa.  "It's exciting"!  This is the SEASON and miracle on Brosius Road.

PEACE

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Mailed out our Christmas packages for the Santa's up North today.

Had a chance to swim which I haven't been able to do since the snow blizzard hit Ohio.  It actually felt pretty good.  Had the pool practically to myself so I could kick and splash all I want.

Tried a new recipe tonight which was super easy.  Of course it was a casserole.  Took some turkey out of the freezer and found a recipe in the newspaper I had cut out some time ago.  It actually didn't taste to bad which is a good thing since we have leftovers from the leftover turkey.  I know I'm stretching it but as long as Grandpa gives his approval on a meal that's one or two nights I don't have to cook.  Keeping  PEACE in the homeland.

FOOD

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa came to our house again for the second time and brought another gift to us.  We really must have been good this year. We are getting spoiled as every time the doorbell rings we are looking for Santa.  All I can say is Mr. and Mrs. Santa want us to have a really nice Christmas dinner with good FOOD.
I saw on FB where Kyle's girlfriend, Bethany, got a high score on her Calc final and an A in the class.  High five to Bethany!

SOMEBODY

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Well another shut down day except for Grandpa.  Grandpa was up in the wee hours of the morning snow blowing out the drive.  He had an 8 o'clock pick up to take the girls to their cleaning jobs.  More snow blowing the drive this afternoon.  Picked them back up at 3:45 and brought them to one of their homes so the girls could make Christmas cookies and candies.  Received another call at 6:15 to take another girl to her sister's house to help bake.  Now Grandpa is waiting for the call to bring them back home.  He is struggling to keep awake.  Fortunately all these girls are from the same family. It's good Grandpa has this little job because it gets him out and gives us conversation.  Grandpa is a special SOMEBODY.

PRAYER/GIVE THANKS

Monday, December 13, 2010

Well by the grace of God we made it to our doctor appointments today.  I think we were the only one's who did.  Grandpa drove and I PRAYED.  Grandpa is an old pro with driving in all kinds of weather and did a phenomenal job today.  There wasn't much traffic but the winds made for poor visibility.  We both got a fairly good report.  My blood pressure has been going up so the doctor adjusted my BP pills.  I just have to go in for a BP check the beginning of January and then I think we both are due in 6 months for our next visit.  We both like this new doctor and he lets us come in together for our visits.  I do give THANKS for our safe trip and good reports.

Grandson Chris's Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!!  "28"
Chris is the son of our son, Steve.  In this picture is Chris and his beautiful wife Lindsay on their wedding day.
Steve, sorry I missed your call but Dad loves hearing and talking with you.  We had a funeral at our church this afternoon so I generally help out if I'm available.  Left the house this morning at 8:45 for Sunday School and church service then just stayed to help out and didn't get home till around 4:00.  WHEW!!!  I'm just glad I'm healthy enough to lend a hand.
Tomorrow morning Grandpa and I have out doctor appointments with our new doctor in Mantua.  We are suppose to get a storm coming through starting tonight.  I can hear the wind blowing as I'm writing this post.  Still out of all the places in the WORLD I would probably chose this little town of Garrettsville to live in.

GRATITUDE

Saturday, December 11, 2010
News has it Minnesota is really getting hit big with a snow blizzard.  This is the second time in 18 years the Mall Of America shut down early because of the weather.
This evening Grandpa and I had the privilege of going to Hudson Community Chapel for their Christmas concert.  Tori had a solo singing Hallelujah! and then lead the choir into the next song Gloria in Excelsis Deo.  She had an amazing voice and looked spectacular in her sequent evening dress.
Grandpa and I met Tim and Kathy at Perkins for supper.   We had an opportunity to show our Christian love to our waitress/manager tonight.  Two of her servers didn't show up for work and Perkins was crowded.  We placed our order and waited probably 45 minutes.  We didn't complain and she was very apologetic for the wait.  To show her GRATITUDE she was kind enough to take $10.00 off the bill plus our meal was delivered hot and very good.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
GRATITUDE is born in hearts that take time to count up past blessings.

GIFTS

Thursday, December 9, 2010
Today Grandpa and I were recipients of someone's blessing.  When I came home from my Old Ladies Bible Study Christmas party there was a package sitting on the kitchen shelf.  Every Christmas since the late 1990s we have received a most generous and act of love GIFT from our previous neighbor Janet Visocan Morrissey.  It's always a total surprise and I have to selfishly say we are like little kids when her package comes.  This year I will share with you what her GIFT was.  The first package we opened was Bountiful Pantry farmhouse Chowder and the second was Bountiful Pantry Wild Rice & Veggie Chowder.  Both Delicious & So easy and ready in minutes.  I love it already.  We continued on our mission of unwrapping gifts and the third was 6 bottles of flavored extra virgin olive oil.  Can't wait to try them.  And to top off our pallet for dessert was two chocolate Santa's.  I want to tell her please don't send GIFTS but the little kid in me says "I love the unexpected surprise".

CHRISTMAS PAST

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Kathy gave me a good chuckle tonight by remembering Christmas past.  She shared the story with her friends when we use to go to Christmas midnight mass and came home and she found a note on the tree saying "Santa came but she wasn't in her bed but he would come back later".  All these years she thought it was Grandpa who left the note but she found out tonight who it really was.  She said "it all made sense now" hehehehe!
Another story I don't think I shared with you is when we made our butter rings and took them to the neighbors that I found out years later I was using 3 times the amount of yeast in them that I was suppose to.  A recipe came out in the paper with the ingredients for butter rings.  I couldn't believe it.   Our poor neighbors probably hated to see us come every year to DELIVER those darn butter rings.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Giving becomes a joy rather than a duty when we realize that God has given us everything.

TWINKLES

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Another day went by pretty fast.  Finished up on the decorating of one big tree and one small one.  I love the TWINKLES.  My favorite TWINKLES is when the sun shines on the snow or when the sun shines on raindrops glistening from the leaves on trees.  I believe there will be a lot of TWINKLES when I get to heaven.  It figures, only God can provide the best TWINKLES.  There are no TWINKLES in the "Thought For The Day" but it's the only word that kept coming in my mind.  "TWINKLE, TWINKLE little mind.  Ok, that's enough.

HAPPY

Monday, December 6, 2010

Burrrrrrrrr!  Yep! We got hit with winter in our little town of Garrettsville.  Grandpa had a chance to use his snow blower for the first time this winter.  I'm so glad he has one as it makes his life a lot easier.
Today was a good day to decorate the Christmas tree and get in the Christmas mood.  I love the Christmas lights and fun ornaments.  I even have 3 ornaments made by our children when they were in school.  Oh my how I can reminisce over each memory of Christmas past.  HAPPY, HAPPY HAPPY that makes Grandma when I think how blessed we are.

VOICE SPEAKS

Sunday, December 5, 2010
I have to say Skype is a pretty neat tool to have.  You not only hear a VOICE but see the person you are talking to.  This evening I enjoyed talking with my friend Bev who lives in KY.  I remember years ago we were saying "Boy! I'm sure glad we don't have picture phones so people can't see what I look like".  I know a few places in the house I wouldn't want a phone.  Now we can See, Hear, SPEAK to each other so I guess what's next would be Smell and Touch.  WOW! That's scary.

RUN

Friday, December 3, 2010

Grandpa asked if I had a good day today and of course I did.  Grandpa was on the RUN today from early morning till 5 this evening.  He had trips taking our Amish neighbor to work this morning, to Rite Aid, To Amish store, to the bank, again to Rite Aid, and finally the laundry mat.  I'm so glad we have two vehicles to drive although I drove the van to the pool and when I came out the truck was there waiting for me.    All and all Grandpa had a very good day.  He came home with two containers of homemade cookies and a few bucks in his wallet.

Grandpa and I did a Middlefield trip this morning which was nice because we were in no hurry so we just shopped, shopped and shopped some more. Ka-Ching!!!!!
Came home for our coffee break and put groceries away.  Off to the pool I went and yep!  Grandpa's back on the treadmill.  No more EXCUSES for him.

LIFE

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Had the time of my LIFE this afternoon.  After bible study I met with three of my friends in Windham at one of their houses.  We had tea and snacks while we talked quilting and probably every other subject women talk about.  We are working on a bicentennial quilt for the Windham Historical Society.  The celebration is taking place this summer.  Right now we have a pretty good start on it so it should be done in time.
