Today I'm getting ready for a mini vacation. I will have the privilege of staying with two of my grandchildren. If you don't hear from me for a few days I will be having the time of my life.

So till we meet again,

42 PROOF CAKE

Today Grandpa and I decided to make a bundt cake. I found a recipe for Lemon Bundt Cake on the net which sounded pretty good. It called for lemon cake mix which I didn't have so I used a butter yellow cake mix. It also called for 3/4 cup of Apricot nectar which we didn't have. Grandpa said 'WAIT" I THINK WE HAVE SOME APRICOT LIQUEUR IN THE BASEMENT". We did but it was probably 20 or 30 years old. Can't remember. Wellllll! we used it. Of course we sampled it to see if it was still good. It wasn't to bad. Made the bundt cake and it didn't come out to bad. My problem was I peeked when I thought it should have been done and it fell. Soooo we have a shrunk 42 apricot proof cake. It really doesn't taste to bad. We keep taking small samples to see if it taste OK. :)

Blog nightmare

Today the blog almost got the best of me. Somehow I ended up with 2 Happy Grandma blogs. I was a little nervous about deleting the second blog for fear of deleting the first blog. I closed my eyes and hit delete and WaLa the second blog was gone without deleting the first blog. Lesson learned: Don't be intimidated with blogs.

Aaron's letter

Today Grandpa and I received a letter from our Grandson, Aaron, who is in the Army Reserves. He has just completed one month of hard discipline training. He placed 3rd out of 70 in his physical training test. He is looking forward to the second phase which will consist of target shooting and other physical training. I can't tell you how happy it makes Grandma to hear from her grandchildren.

A DAY OF VISITING

It all began with a bible study and lunch at the church this morning. One of the men at our church made two big pots of homemade soup. Delicious! A friend of mine who will be 90 years old this year went with me to visit a another lady from our church who is unable to attend services. This is part of a program called "WE CARE". There are several shut-ins from our church who are unable to attend services so to help brighten up their day we have visitations.

After I came home Grandpa was ready to go with me to visit our neighbor in a rehab hospital after having knee surgery. They really work them hard twice a day. He seemed to appreciate having a little company for a short while.

It always makes a person feel good if you can make a difference in someones life even if it's a little visit.

Today I received an email from my friend, Becky, saying I was behind on my blog. Actually I was happy to know someone is reading it.
I started another book that was loaned to me by a friend. The book is STEPPING HEAVENWARD by Elizabeth Prentiss. This book is a treasure of both godly and womanly wisdom told with disarming candor and humility, yet revealing a deep heart's desire to know God. I do not hesitate to recommend it to men , who need to better understand the wives they live with, and to any woman who wants to walk with God."
Just received a phone call from our president of the women's alliance requesting me to speak on Discipleship referencing John 11:25 and John 6:40. More homework for Grandma. I really don't mind because it gets me deeper into the scriptures.
I have set goals for myself and thanks to Jared he has inspired me to stay on track.

Champion Diver

Well! We have a champion diver in the family. Kyle took first place Saturday on the 3 meter diving board. I had to admit I held my breath on some of the twister and tumbler dives. It was a very close score which made it exciting to watch. God answered my prayer by keeping him safe.
I enjoyed my time with Tim, Kathy, Tori and Kyle. It was good Kyle was able to go out and eat with us between his afternoon and evening dives. We even did a little shopping at this wonderful outlet store for Nike. In fact it seemed like there was a whole city block filled with outlet stores. Maybe another time we'll have to check them out.

This morning was Sunday School and Church. There is a set of twin boy's Michael and Jacob that came this morning to Sunday School. I haven't seen them in quite awhile. We had a total of 5 children which is almost all of them. I sure will miss them when they move up to the next grade in the Fall.

This afternoon is rest time. Maybe some quilting, reading or napping.

Keeping on schedule. Today I was able to clean out a cabinet at the church with my helper who is 6 years old. We had a ball but Grandma was sure tired after we were done. When I got home it was a quick fix lunch and turn the computer on to watch the diving event at Grove City College. The computer was good to me today and didn't freeze up. After watching the diving It was off to the pool for Grandma to swim. By the time I got home it was time to prepare supper. Love those frozen pizzas. The kitchens all cleaned so now I think I will fix a cup of decaf coffee and quilt a little before I go to bed.

Tomorrow Grandma will be gone because Kathy invited me to watch Kyle dive in the finals at Grove City College. I'm looking forward to a fun day.

You all have a nice weekend.

Champion

Kyle finished first place on the one meter diving board. He is the PAC champion for 2009.
Tomorrow he will be diving the 3 meter board. WAY TO GO KYLE.

Kyle's Diving Meet

This morning I had my Ladies Bible Study from 10 till noon. Grandpa had lunch already when I came home. I tried to watch the semi finals of the diving meet that our Grandson, Kyle, was in. Grove City College is having live video coverage of the PAC swimming and diving meet. For some reason the picture keeps freezing up but we are able to hear the audible scores.

We went to visit our neighbor this afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren where he had knee replacement surgery. He is doing very well. Grandpa then took us to one of our favorite places to eat and that's at the Hot Dog shoppe. Mmmmm!

We are home now and I just put on a fresh pot of coffee and we will have some dessert before the finals of swimming and diving start at 6 o'clock.

So far this day is going as planned. I am starting to get that Great feeling.

Day One

My first day of trying to be organized and ahead of the game plan. This morning went well but by afternoon I just couldn't resist closing my eyes for a few minutes. OK! an hour. I still have kitchen clean up duty and some reading to do before I watch American Idol. I'd say I still have some work to do on keeping a schedule and sticking with it. Maybe tomorrow.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Today there were many prayer request that I needed to pray for. Already many were answered and some I will just have to wait and see how God answers. I am so grateful I have a Father in Heaven who listens when I call upon Him.

Grandpa started a new 1000 piece puzzle yesterday. That will keep him busy for a few days.

As of today I'm going to try real hard to organize and make the best use of my time. Soooo I better get off the computer and get started. Thanks Jared!

Monday

Again Monday's have always been my favorite day of the week because of having a routine to follow. Today was anything but normal. First we had neighbors in for coffee and donuts, then fixed lunch for Grandpa and I went swimming at the Health Center. I came home just as another neighbor came to visit to check up on us on how we were doing. That is comforting to know someone close checks in on us. She stayed two hours and then it was time to fix supper. After Supper another friend came to share her recipe for (Not Your Ordinary Corn Flakes). She brought some over to try and it is incredibly good. All it takes is 1/2 cup of peanut butter and 1 package of butterscotch chips. Melt them together in a microwave. Pour over 7 cups of corn flakes and mix through. Spread out on wax paper or foil till cool. Very easy and delicious. It's time to clean up the kitchen and maybe read a little before I go to bed. We never know what our day will bring us. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

The lesson I was studying, Daniel and the Lion's Den, was for my Sunday School children. I really enjoy learning and teaching these bible stories especially since I didn't grow up knowing them. The other study is for my Thursday Ladies Bible Study which is on the Gospel of John. The more I learn the more I want to know.
I have a beef roast, potatoes, onions, and celery in my slow cooker. It smells so good. That's what's for dinner tonight. Maybe this is a good afternoon to quilt. Grandma continues to be Happy.

Restful Saturday

I'm done playing with the icons for awhile. I bet you are all grateful for that. Today was restful. The only thing I did extra was bake a banana cream pie for Grandpa. I have some studying to do tonight and maybe watch a movie or read.

Friday, February 6, 2009

As you can see I'm playing with my little icons above my blog. I haven't figured out yet how to put the image or a video in. I might have to have Erica show me how. Erica knows everything about anything.
It's nice to have Jared as one of my followers. I wish for him this weekend long naps and good food.
Grandpa is waiting for my company to watch a good movie so you all have a good evening. "I'm coming Grandpa"

Another good book

Recently we switched from cable to Digitaltv. We now have 200 channels to choose from and do you think I could find anything worth watching. Nope!! Sooo I started to read another very good book. This book was given to me from our Amish neighbors. The book is called Murder by Family the author is Kent Whitaker. Murder by family: is an incredible true story of a son's treachery and a father's forgiveness.

Aaron

Today I read a letter from our grandson, Aaron, that was written to his brother and forwarded on to me. All I can say is college life is a piece of cake compared to what Aaron is going through in his Army Reserve Basic Training. Bed at 9pm and up at 4am. He writes he misses home, good food and his bed. One good thing is he has only 13 more weeks to go till he graduates from Basics.

Monday, February 2, 2009

I was already to write about our broken garage door opener when Grandpa said no one wants to hear about that so that's about all the news I had for today. We did get it fixed. The end.
Grandma is still Happy. :)

I think I have writer's block. Can't think of anything to say. To all my friends and family have a happy Super Bowl Sunday. May your favorite team win.
