TELESCOPE

Sunday, February 27, 2011

What to write? What to write?  Well thanks to Kathy calling us this evening I have something to write.  We have caller ID and the name appears on the phone so we know who's calling.  Always when Kathy would call the ID came up Grubbs, Tim.  Tonight it came up Kathy.  I was surprised and told Kathy what happened and she said "How did it know it wasn't Tim or Tori calling?"  I didn't know maybe we have a smart phone or one with a high powered TELESCOPE:  But Grandpa had the answer.  While I was staying at Tim and Kathy's house Grandpa was playing with the phone and entered some phone numbers with names under phonebook.  He put Kathy's name in for their home phone number.  Grandpa is so smart and our kids should be very thankful of that.  I wonder what part of Grandma they got????  That does not require an answer.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Love looks through a TELESCOPE: envy through a microscope.

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.  Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up."

NEW

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Grandpa had his chiller channel on and was watching a really sick gross movie.  What's worse I sat down with him.  What's worse then that is we were eating chili.  And what's the worst of the worst was found out it was a true story. Ugh!  I think we might have to find a NEW channel for Grandpa.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A bird does not sing because he has an answer--he sings because he has a song.

PATIENT

Friday, February 25, 2011

I can't believe what just happened to me.  I'll explain!

I'm laughing on the inside because I was playing with Grandpa's mind.  I had some 1957 tunes playing and asked Grandpa to guess what year those songs were.
He said "I have no idea"
I said " Just guess"
He said " I don't know 1960"
I said " Close, It's between 1955 and 1960
He said "1957"
I said "Your Right" Yeah!
Grandpa never did like playing games.
I asked to sit on his lap and he had open arms.
Grandpa is PATIENT sometimes. :))))

Now for what just happened is I went to copy what I just wrote and accidentally clicked on paste and yesterdays email came up.  I was shocked to see it.  I guess the joke is on me.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A bright eye indicates curiosity:  a black eye, too much!

MIND

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Reflecting on today's events I thought I would share with you about an important phone call I made.  I made up my MIND to call a friend I haven't heard from in a long while.  It's been a year that she lost her 5 year old grandson to cancer.  Her name is Karen and many years ago I worked with her at Doc's restaurant.  As time went by we both attended the same church.  I just love this friend because we can talk about our Lord Jesus for hours on end.  Karen moved away and since the lose of her grandson her life took many twist and turns.  Her daughter who is married and has 3 children just got deployed to Iraq.  I decided to call her and we both were so excited to hear each others voice.  What a wonderful blessing this was to us both.  If there is someone you haven't heard from or seen and want to get in contact with don't wait for another time.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Generosity is a matter of the heart and not finances.

"Every one must make up his own MIND as to how much he should give.  Don't force anyone to give more than he really wants to, for cheerful givers are the ones God prizes."

PLANS

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I had PLANS to attend my bible study today at the church but I didn't know it had been cancelled.  I was the only one in the parking lot and happened to bring along the book I started last night called, The Power Of Suffering by John MacArthur, Jr.  It really is a very good book and the author is very profound in his writings.  He wants to bring you up to the challenge of strengthening your faith in the refiner's fire.  I'm a slow reader so this is a perfect book for me.  I'm thinking the car is the best place to read a book.  Very quiet and time for reflection of what I just read.

The afternoon was as wonderful as the morning.  I worked on a quilt and our 10 year old Amish neighbor girl came with a plate of oatmeal raisen cookies.  I say thank you Lord for this beautiful day even if it didn't go as I PLANNED.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

RUIN

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Spent the morning with quilting friends and plan to meet again next Tuesday.  I think this Windham Historical Quilt will be really nice when finished.

I was all inspired when I came home and worked on another quilt in my sewing room.  So much fun all in one day. Didn't want to RUIN the quilting high I was having.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

SHINE

Monday, February 21, 2011

Two more days and Steve and Tracy will be soaking up the sun and letting it SHINE on them in Mexico.  Hope the airport is open and no flight delays.  Have fun you two and be careful!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It isn't necessary to blow out the other fellow's light in order to let your own light SHINE.

KIERSTEN'S BIG FISH

Sunday, February 20, 2011

I was checking out facebook and came across Kiersten's photo's.  I have to say the fish she caught is HUGH.  I believe it was a pike.  Alyssa, if you have details on this fish story we would sure love to hear about it.
Kiersten is our step great granddaughter, step granddaughter to our son Steve and step daughter to Alyssa.  She is 15 and has a remarkable story of being a cancer survivor.  NOTHING stops her from doing what she sets her mind on doing.

GOOD

Saturday, February 19, 2011
Have you ever done something nice for somebody you didn't know?  It's a GOOD feeling to have.  Today I was at Walmart with Grandpa shopping for grocerys when I saw an old, short, sweet and maybe a little bit round Amish woman trying to bend down to get a case of coke.  I saw her struggling because the cases were jammed packed on a lower shelf.  I bent down to help and with the both of us pulling and tugging we finally got it out.  It was pretty heavy but she carried it to her cart.  She said "it's much cheaper to buy a full case then two cartons of coke".  I just smiled.

PERFECT

Friday, February 18, 2011

Today was a PERFECT day!  This morning I went out to the pool and had the PERFECT swim.  This afternoon had a hair appointment to get a perm.  Looks pretty dapper if I say so myself.  This evening Grandpa took me out for supper at Cal's.  While we were at Cal's my cleaning girl was making our home clean and smelling good.  Now how much more PERFECT can a day bring.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

COMMAND REWARDED

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Just came home from a funeral service this evening and it was pretty emotional.  The gentleman was the husband of one of our Sunday School teachers.  He was the same age as Grandma, 69.  He leaves his wife, a son and two daughters.  One of the daughters sang "In Daddy's Hands".  There were no dry eyes at that service.  I had his granddaughter in our WBC kids ministries 10 years ago.  She is now 16 and came up to me saying how she remember being in my class.  I was amazed she remembered.  When God COMMANDS you to do His work the REWARDS are never ending.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It is better to pay the price of obedience than the penalty of disobedience.

"He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a COMMAND is REWARDED."

MOTIVES

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Wait till you hear what I did today and I'm not sorry one bit.

Grandpa and I stopped at the drugstore for some vitamins I needed.  We walked in together and then I lost him.  I strolled over to the isle that had the valentine candy 50% off.  My eyes couldn't believe what I saw.  Shelves of red boxes and bags of candy.  I stopped in front of the Ghirardelli chocolate and picked up 3 bags of Ghirardelli chocolate squares with an assortment of Milk & Peanut Butter, Dark 60% Cacao, Dark & Raspberry and Milk & Caramel.  Grandpa came around the corner and caught me.  I looked up and said "Oh! I'm so glad you didn't buy me candy for valentines day because it's more fun to come down and get it at 50% off".  Only God knew my MOTIVE.

I came home and found a book I needed to return to my high school girl friend and thought "Boy! it would be nice to take her some chocolate."  I didn't want to give up one of my 3 bags so I stopped at the drugstore again and there was one left.  Off I went to return the book and give a gift of candy.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A man sees your actions, but God sees your MOTIVES.

"For God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

TRUE FRIEND

Do you have a TRUE FRIEND?  I do!  I have good friends from my high school days.  How many years ago was that???  I love these girl FRIENDS that we can share high school memory days, getting married days, raising our children days, loving our grandchildren days and best of all we are all still married to our very best FRIEND whom we married 50 plus years ago.

I have TRUE FRIENDS who live close by and TRUE FRIENDS who have moved far away but close at heart.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

A TRUE FRIEND is a breath of fresh air and like a rainbow after a storm.

CONQUER

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Do any of you have a problem with seeing  the information on your computer screen?  It's that in between near sightedness and far sightedness that's the problem.  I put my face practically on the screen to see or stand across the room.  Either Grandpa is getting smarter or I'm getting dumber. ( that does not require an answer)
Today as I was trying to read something on the screen Grandpa said "why don't you bring the screen closer to you by pulling it forward".  HELLOOOOO!!!!!!!!!  I did and it changed my life.  I CONQUERED my sight problem.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Those who expect to win have already begun to CONQUER.

BEHIND

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Yesterday Grandpa was the hero.  Today I'm not so sure what he is going to be because he has been watching chiller movies today on TV.  He came out in the kitchen and chuckled and said "I haven't seen scary movies in a long time."  You don't know how bad I want to sneak up BEHIND him and YELL :O.  But I know better because I might be the victim in "Without A Trace".

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Keep your face to the sunshine of His love and the shadows will fall BEHIND you.

A HERO

Friday, February 11, 2011

Grandpa is a hero!  Last night Grandpa at 6 o' clock took 20 year old Cathy and her 10 year old sister to the Laundromat.  There were two boys who were in the Laundromat just hanging out.  They left on their bikes when the two Amish girls went in.  Grandpa came home and pretty soon the third sister called and asked Grandpa to take her to the Laundromat.  Grandpa took her and the girls were fearful of the two boys that were hanging around the place. They were pretty hard to IGNORE riding their bikes back and forth.  There was a smell of weed in the air from when the boys were in the bathroom.  Grandpa knew the girls were scared so he went in the Laundromat, sat down, and waited till the girls were done.  They called Grandpa their hero.  Today one of the girls brought over a plate of sugar and chocolate chip cookies for Grandpa, their hero.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Sin would have few takers if the consequences occurred immediately.

PROVE

Thursday, February 10, 2011

I started out today thinking of whom ever I meet I wanted to make a difference in their life in a good way.

I had my mammogram done this morning and I met a really nice technician.  Her name was Daine Hedge and she had lived and went to school in Windham.  She made me feel very comfortable having such an ouchy test.

My next person was the cashier at Marc's.  Her name was Bonnie and Marc's did not accept our Master Card as they only accept Discover credit cards.  She was patient with me writing my check.  She watched over me because I had stuff all over her counter.  She said "you just can't be to careful these days".

My third person I met was at the Health Center.  I finished swimming and was in the locker room getting ready to come home when this young gal came in and said "Hi honey".  We talked about the weather and how it made our nose run.   She was on her way to do her workout and she said "Have a nice day Sweetheart".

As it turned out everyone I met PROVE to make my day better.  I was blessed.

People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do.

MORNING

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

How many of you caught my 2010 date yesterday?  I did get a couple of Welcome Back emails.  Thank you for thinking of Grandma.

It was one of those days today when you wake up and say "I wonder what today will bring".  I think I'm going to change my philosophy and say "What can I say or do to make this day count"?  I can't go back to yesterday even though I did try with my 2010 date.   It's interesting to think about who I met and talked to today.  The first person I see every MORNING is Grandpa and when I think about it we have a pretty special tradition of how we start our MORNING.  (That's all you need to know)  That sets the start of a new day with a smile. :)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Everything is easier with practice except getting up in the MORNING.

I'M B A C K

Tuesday, February, 8, 2010

Grandma's B A C K from her retreat or I should say treat.  Had a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with Tori.  In everyone's busy days it's hard to set aside time to spend with our grandchildren.  God was so good He even provided two school snow days while I was there.  Tori and I both took advantage of them by sleeping in later then usual.  While I was gone Grandpa was nursing a very bad cold so for meals he and Campbell's chicken noodle soup were good friends.  I have a few stories I could share but I'm only going to give you the headline topics.  1. The lost kitty, 2. My lost cell phone, 3. Two tear jerker movies, The Last Song and The Titanic, and number 4, Being locked out.  It would be hard to pick just ONE to tell so I'll leave it at that.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
