Eye Appointment

Today Grandpa and I had our 2 year scheduled eye appointment. Grandpa's vision improved. The Dr. was surprised how good Grandpa could see without glasses. He actually called Grandpa a showoff because Grandpa could read the charts with flying colors. Now Grandma was a different story. I think I'm related to Mr. Magoo somewhere along the line. I need stronger lenses but Ooooooh the pretty frames I picked out look real good.
In conversation we found out the Dr. knew our sons, John and Steve from high school years. Small World!

Erica Before Concert

Erica

Yesterday, Sunday, I had the opportunity to see and hear our granddaughter Erica play bass in the symphonic orchestra at Allegheny College in PA. My son, John, picked me up and we traveled with some interesting things happening along the way. First I set my GPS up on the dashboard thinking we were all set to roll. We hadn't even gone the first 5 miles when my GPS blew out. I think it was caused by hitting one of those large pot holes in the road. We went to plan B which was a map John had printed out from map quest. We really took a tour of the country side seeing all the little towns along the way. We even saw a HUGE dinosaur in someones front yard. Next thing that happened was I offered John some gum which he took and part of his tooth came out. We made it to Meadville in good time and enjoyed the concert. After the concert we ate Chinese at the local restaurant. We were the only 3 people in the whole place. ???? I tried my GPS again for the trip home and we set it for the fastest time and couldn't believe the straight shot it was coming home, without pot holes. Live and Learn.

Erica is very talented and I enjoyed spending time with her.

Happy Birthday Kasey

Nineteen years ago today Grandpa and I were in MN for the birth of our granddaughter, Kasey. Kasey was 6#lloz and 19 inches long. Today Kasey is finishing her first year at Bethel College in IN. We had fun watching Kasey grow up and are looking forward to many years ahead.

Early this morning Grandpa and I were leaving the house at 7a.m. for Home Depot. Grandpa bought 25 bags of white marble rock for behind our house. It's fun to see Grandpa's excitement about a project. We even stopped at a Barn sale on the way back home. Grandma found a couple of books and a beautiful bracelet for a $1.00. Fun, fun, fun.

Our Friend Returned

This morning as Grandpa and I were having our coffee Grandpa said "LOOK" it was our Baltimore Oriole returning from his winter migration. The Bright, flaming orange bird with black head and wings with white and orange bars was sitting on our bird feeder. Grandpa hurriedly fixed his grape jelly feed and set it out on the shrub. It wasn't even 5 minutes and our Oriole was back feeding on the jelly. What a beautiful way to start the morning.

FIREPROOF

Grandma had the opportunity to see the movie Fireproof starring Kirk Cameron. Kirk is a firefighter who reluctantly commits to a 40-day experiment in an attempt to rescue his marriage. The movie has humor, is serious and tearful. An excellent flick.

Grandma is back in the saddle again. It's good to have a day with a regular routine. Grandpa is enjoying the weather with doing yard work and landscaping. He is the Happy Sower and I am the Happy Sewer. That works for both of us. :)

I'm back on line

Grandma's back! Our computer was sick and had to see a specialist. Fortunately it was not serious and I was able to keep all my files.
It's very strange not having a computer to check daily emails and web sites but on the other hand I was able to get more quilting and reading done. It's almost like going on vacation. Wellll, maybe not.

Computer problems

Just a little note to say if you don't hear from me for awhile it is because I am having computer problems.

Grandma and Grandpa are doing well and enjoying the beautiful weather.

A Blessing

Today I had the pleasure of giving a blessing to an elderly man at our church. His name is George. Recently I had brought into our adult bible study a piece of wood art our son, John, made me for Christmas of the Holy Family. George saw it and said he remembered a plaque he saw as a boy at his Great Aunt's house in Germany which said
O' LORD BLESS THIS HOUSE AND ALL THAT DWELL WITHIN---
IF ANY NEED THEE, HELP THEM.
TELL ALL THAT ENTER HERE O' LORD, JESUS CHRIST,
THAT THOU ART THE DOOR TO LIFE ETERNAL.
John not only wrote the words out on wood but made a shadow of Christ with his arms outstretched and bursting of sun rays shining upon Him.
I gave this plaque to George today which brought tears to his eyes. God truly blessed George by using our son's talents.

Hurrah!!!!! Finally got Grandpa and my picture on profile.

Half Day

Surprisingly I am writing with only half the day gone. Grandpa and I went to Middlefield this morning and enjoyed shopping. First we went to the Cheese factory (one of our favorite places) and purchased Horseradish Swiss cheese and Baby Swiss. Off to Walmart we go and stroll through the store looking, pricing and buying. We seen a neighbor we used to live by 40 years ago. Can you believe she still recognized us. One of the store managers is Amish and always friendly. Grandpa looks for her to check us out or at least to say Hi. We came home, unloaded groceries had our coffee break and fixed lunch. What a wonderful morning.

Thank you Kathy for the explanation of Brian's comment. :)

Easter Sunday

Hello my friends and family,
It was a blessed Easter yesterday spent by attending church with Grandpa and going over to Kathy and Tim's house for a wonderful meal. It was great seeing and visiting with Erica, Kyle and Kasey home from college and I do believe Michael and Tori must have grown 2 more inches since the last time I saw them. We talked on the phone when we got home with our son who lives in MN. Someday again we are looking forward to all being together for a good old family hoe down.
Jared my friend I want to say Shalom.

This morning started out donuts with the neighbors at 9 o'clock. We meet once a month and have coffee and donuts and catch up on the local news. 10:45 I was picked up by girl friends to shop and go out for lunch at Applebees. We do this 4 times a year on each of our birthdays. Lots of bargains shopping to many to mention but I still had a few bucks left in my wallet when I got home. While I was out having fun Grandpa worked up in the attic, took Amish girl to town, washed the car, and unloaded a ton of wood pellets from a pick up truck. Grandpa is now sound asleep and I think it's time for Grandma to get ready for bed. Ho Hum Big Yawn :O

Grandpa and I are doing better after saying goodbye to our dear Annie. Our neighbors have dogs so they will get an inheritance of dog food, dog biscuits, treats and toys.

I'm now on facebook which is pretty interesting. If anyone wants to be my friend on facebook I would welcome you.

Today is our grandson's 16th birthday. Wow! Hard to believe he is of driving age. Michael is Erica's brother.

Tonight I'll be going to a Passover Seder meal at our church. Our Pastor reveals the Jewish traditions and how they apply to us Christians today.

Annie

Today we had to put our beloved dog, Annie, to sleep. It really hurts even though we know it was the best we could do for her. Annie had a lot of complications with her ageing problems. I'm just glad Grandma was able to hold her and have her head on my chest as she breathed her last.
That's about all I can write now. Thank you for all who read this and hurt with me.

Do You Know?

Today I was at the dentist and had a nice conversation with the receptionist. Her daughter is a sophomore at Allegheny. Her name is Miranda Porter. Miranda's Grandfather is a friend to Grandpa and me. Would like to know if Erica or Jared knows her. Her hometown is Garrettsville, Ohio.

Busy Day

The day started out with doctor appointments for Grandpa and I. At our age it's old age problems with old age pills to take and more follow up appointments. My favorite follow up place is Bob Evans and that's where Grandpa and I went next.

In the afternoon it was my mile swim at the health club.

Later in the afternoon:
Grandpa and I decided to explore the new store that opened in town. It was quite interesting and affordable. All the items were used but in excellent condition and very well displayed. The store is called Chic and Shabby. Hold onto your hat! We went out to supper at our local restaurant and then came home for dessert. We sure do like to eat.

Retirement is wonderful.
