A HAPPY DAY

What a fun day Grandpa and I had. The first picture Grandpa took when he went to the tractor parade in Garrettsville. Garrettsville was trying to set a new record with the most tractors ever in a parade. I'm not sure if they did it but Grandpa said there were a lot of tractors. The picture is of our friend and neighbor, Bob Maynard, with his John Deere tractor.

Grandma went to her good friends 50th surprise wedding anniversary party, Becky & Bub Miller. The second picture is of their cake but the real hit of the party was the rum chocolate cake Becky made. She got the recipe from the islands when they went on their cruise. I have to say it's the best chocolate cake I have ever had and I have had a lot of cake in my years. Becky did say she would share the recipe. YUM!

The third picture is the Happy couple, Becky and Bub. Congratulations!

I also met Cara one of the blogs I follow. Cara will be a senior at Akron University this Fall. Cara's blog is (Dust of Everyday Life) if you would like to check it out. She is a cutie. I should mention Cara is Becky and Bub's granddaughter.

Grandpa has been busy replacing the floor on our deck. Sunday the men in our family helped by taking off the wood gliders and deck railings. Sorry about the blurry pictures but that was caused by the photographer. Me!!! In the pictures are John our son, Tim our son-in-law removing the big glider. Our grandsons Kyle and Michael removed the smaller one.

I received a blessing today by receiving a phone call from our granddaughter, Erica. It's so nice to be thought of in such a nice way. Thank you Erica.

First I want to thank Erica and Jared for their comments on my last blog. Everything seemed to turn out well which I am thankful for. The Glorified Hash Browns got a thumbs up from the family. It was so easy to put together and I know I will prepare it again. The recipe is as follows:

2 cans (10-¾ ounces each) condensed cream of celery soup, undiluted.

2 cartons (8 ounces each) spreadable chive and onion cream cheese

1 package (2 pounds) frozen cubed hash brown potatoes.

1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese

In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the soup and cream cheese. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 minutes or until cream cheese is melted, stirring occasionally. Add the potatoes and stir until coated.

Spoon into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x2-in. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake 3-5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Yield: 10 servings.

Grandpa's clematis is in full bloom. I just had to take a picture of it to share.

Happy Father's Day

For all you Father's out there, may you be blessed beyond your comprehension.

Our kids are coming today to celebrate Grandpa's Father's day. I have a big roaster full of Swiss steak and I'm trying out a new recipe called Glorified Hash Browns Grandpa found in a Taste of Home magazine. I just hope and pray everything is eatable.

I'll let you know how all turns out.

Friends

The most recent news is some really good friends of ours ,The Johnsons, just got a computer. We go back a long long time. In fact I believe they will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary real soon. Bev and I were in the same class in school and our kids were in the same class when they went through school. I'm looking forward to many emails.

Visiting neighbors

Just returned from visiting our neighbors the Sheehans. We finished supper and dessert when our phone rang. The Sheehans invited us to their house for a visit. Ruth is a quilter and what a treat to see the quilts she's made and ones that are in the making. We sat around the table and talked for 3 hours. Visiting is something we use to do when you couldn't afford to go out for entertainment. Visiting is something that should return to our American Society. It's good to stay in touch with people and share interest and concerns.

I just read Jared's experience of making pie at our house. If you get a chance click on my friend, Jared's blog and get a chuckle.

Today was a wonderful day. First Grandpa and I went shopping in Middlefield. ( I bet you are wondering why we go shopping all the time) I'm wondering that myself but I don't turn down the offer. We stopped at the cheese factory and Walmart. Ka Ching!!! It never fails how we can fill up a cart and just have a few things on the shopping list.

Laundry is all done, Home made potato soup for supper and worked on a quilt this afternoon. Now I'm just waiting to pick up my Amish neighbor from the Laundromat.

I love when I have a day feeling like I got something accomplished.

Thanks for looking in and reading my blog.

A shopping day

Another shopping day for Grandpa and I. Let's see!!! We started out and hit 2 detours which wasn't all bad except using more gas. Speaking of gasoline we stopped in Warren and filled up at $2.65. It's still $2.85 here in Garrettsville. We went to Kohls and I found almost everything I was looking for. Grandpa bought a new razor. When we checked out his razor came up as 179.99 on sale for 129.99. Grandpa stood there and kept saying "no,no,no". He told the cashier he would be right back and he exchanged it for one that cost 59.99 on sale for 29.99 plus we had 30% off and it came to $22.35. Poor Grandpa was in sticker shock for awhile. Off to Kmart we went and I finished up all my purchases which made for a Happy Grandma.

New recipe

Tried another new recipe today called Rhubarb Cheesecake Bars. It made a HUGE jelly roll pan full so Grandma went on her merry way to deliver rhubarb cheesecake bars to all our neighbors and we still have a half of pan left. Maybe tomorrow I'll take some to our church for our bible study group. That should about clean up the pan. Grandpa just found another recipe in the Taste of Home magazine called Coconut-Rhubarb Spice Cake.

Beth if you are passing by stop in and have a snack. I'm sure it will be Rhubarb Something.

Today was donut day in our neighborhood. If you don't have one in your neighborhood I surely would recommend it. There are 7 of us that get together once a month, have donuts and just enjoy catching up what's new. Most of us are retired or have a business in their home so we are able to meet during the day. Maybe someday I'll take a picture of our group to share.

The rest of today I worked on an applique quilt. It actually is coming along pretty good. But the highlight of the day is when the UPS man came and brought my fabric for my next project. ¶ OH HOW HAPPY I WILL BE.

God's sense of humor

This morning at Sunday School,(I teach 3,4 and 5 year olds) one of my children brought in two quarters for missions. She decided to keep one for herself. When class was over her mother came to pick her up so the little girl quickly put the quarter in her mouth so her mother wouldn't see it. All of a sudden a BIG SNEEZE and out the quarter came. We were all laughing because it looked like she was sneezing quarters out but the little girls face was between fear and a laugh. She was caught for not putting in all her money to missions.

Just received a phone call from our daughter to come over for a cookout. So Grandpa and I are on our way. Always love to see family.

New recipe

Today I tried a new recipe my sister-in-law gave me called Buttermilk Rhubarb Bread. It was not hard to put together but I forgot the vanilla and Grandpa accidentally hit the speed bake on the oven. I just took it out of the oven and it smells good but we shall see how it taste later.

It's that time of year for Graduation Open Houses. I went to one today that has an amazing story behind it. The boy's name is Shayne and he has a brother that is serving in Iraq. His brother was able to come home on a 3 week leave. Shayne's Father who is in his 40's had a heart attack Wednesday night. They life flighted him to Akron General where they did surgery that night. Now for the Blessings:
Shayne's brother home from Iraq:
His Dad came home from the hospital this morning and was greeting people as they came to the open house graduation party.
It's amazing of what the power of prayer can do.

As a side note: Shayne's mother was at our ladies meeting Wednesday night. We all put our names in a basket and drew one out and that was the person who we would pray for. Welllll! I drew Shayne's mother's name and started praying for her that night. Little did I know of all that was going to happen. God Knew!!

TGIF

Very interesting Friday! I made two trips to Middlefield with the Amish girls. They took their dog to the groomers. Neighbor Dan came over for a visit and right after he left neighbor Bob came for a visit. Along with getting groceries, gas in the car and going to the bank this morning it made a pretty full day so I asked Grandpa "How would you like going out for supper tonight"? Soooo, we are on our way to our favorite restaurant, Cal's, for a fish dinner.

As a side note I couldn't believe how gas prices jumped up overnight. It was $2.89 here in Garrettsville.

The weather today is beautiful and I enjoyed coffee and homemade cookies, our Amish girl made for us, this afternoon on our porch watching the baby robins in their nest. It's just amazing how the birds take care of their youngens.

Well, Off to Cal's we go.

The Green Button

Today was very interesting and humbling. I drove my Amish neighbors to Middlefield for a dentist appointment. After the dentist she asked if it would be alright to go to the bank. Sure I said. Where is it??? I pulled in the lot and she said go to the drive thru. Ok! I pulled up to the pole with the canister and started to read the directions on how to open it when the cashier said in a loud voice "PRESS THE GREEN BUTTON" . I did. The canister opened. Everything was going fine the canister came back to us I pulled it out gave it to my friend and put it back. Now it didn't close sooooo I PRESSED THE GREEN BUTTON. The canister shot up and I took off before they took down my license number. My Amish neighbors were laughing and off to Wall-Mart we went.
